Festival of Children Foundation Shares 5 Ways to Celebrate
Mother’s Day with Mothers In Need
Festival of Children Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity whose mission is to improve the lives of children by strengthening the charities that serve them, has gathered five fun, inexpensive, and heartwarming ways to brighten the day of a mother in need this Mother’s Day weekend. By encouraging families to volunteer, children will have the opportunity to learn the importance of assisting one’s community and bond through a meaningful experience that will last much longer than flowers. By helping moms with Mom, children can show Mom that her compassion and kindness has rubbed off.
1. Home Baked Love & Support:
Bake sugar cookies or cupcakes and decorate them with words and symbols of encouragement. These can be distributed at a local shelter for homeless or battered women, and offer support at a difficult time.
2. Send A Mother’s Day Card:
Mary’s Shelter in Santa Ana invites volunteers to bring joy and hope to 18 vulnerable Teen Mothers and their babies: a card with words of encouragement, flowers or a small plant to cheer, or other tokens of support for motherhood. Groups and families can call Volunteer Coordinator Amy at (714) 730-0930 to make arrangements, or visit www.teenshelter.org.
3. Make A Care Package:
MOMS Orange County welcomes care packages to aid low-income mothers and their babies. Care packages can include baby wipes, diapers, new or gently worn baby clothes, and notes of encouragement. To coordinate a delivery contact Yvonne Sanders at (714) 972-2610. For more information on MOMS and their mission to help women and their families have healthy babies, please visit www.momsorangecounty.org.
4. Share Your Knowledge:
Offer to teach a “mommy and me” cooking, knitting, or other craft class at a local women’s shelter. Aside from providing an interactive recreational activity, these classes can also help build skills, and nurture creativity.
5. Home Cooked Meal:
Several organizations, such as the Ronald McDonald House Charities offer homemade meals to their residents in need. Volunteers can contact their local branch to coordinate a special Mother’s Day brunch or dinner by visiting www.rmhc.org.
